Fossil Hunting

On day two in Lyme Regis we decided to go out fossil hunting. It was amazing! There were literally tons of them. (Most of the rocks were pretty big). Before I even got in the fossil zone, I found two ammonites. They were really in good condition too. So when we went in the fossil zone, I filled my pockets. Mum thought she found a really good fish but when we took them to the fossil shop to ask about them they only said it was a normal rock. I teased mum for the rest of the day. A couple minutes later mum and I were on a walk. We got lost in the woods and were traveling for half an hour because mum couldn’t read the map. I had a look and it turned out to be upside down. So after a few people gave us directions and a hop skip and a jump through some stinging nettles we were back at Lyme and at one of my favourite places in the world, a mini golf course. I obviously beat mum and then another kid that I didn’t know but later I became friends with him. His family bought me an ice - cream and we had a game of football on the beach and obviously I won again with his dad. They took me home and mum wanted to watch Peter Pan for the rest of the night.

By the way dad I read your comment and I laughed my head off. I was calling mum a pinche for the rest of the day. I wonder what that means. And I was also wondering what time you would like to come to Australia.

Lyme Regis

Well we arrived in Lyme Regis yesterday and I think I like it the most. It’s famous for its fossils. We are going on a fossil tour tomorrow. You can find trilobites and ammonites and semi - precious stone like amethyst, quartz and onyx. I’m really excited. There are tons of fossil shops and its people are very friendly. Also mum went against the traffic on a lane way and we were stuck facing them. What I like doing the most is going to all the fossil shops and looking and the semi - precious stones. My favourite is amethyst. Anyway leave comments.

Dad's Life

Dear Alex
It is not my intention here to draw to attention the horrible disparity that exists between your life and mine But - and it's a big Butt, for instance, do you know what I was searching for most of the day. Spiders - Big Spiders. Big Black Widow Spiders. ON ME! That's right Alex while you are casually examining the precious value of some unique fossil or precious stone I have been working under a very filthy double wide mobile home on the bad side of town.

I don't want you to think I'm bitter. But these things are ugly and there everywhere, most of the time they will run away unless you kinda corner them and then they make this death lunge trying to get under your clothes. So far I have not been bitten and I will have the new plumbing in tomorrow so I will be out from under the house. But . . . I really hope you are enjoying yourself and I will keep my eyes open for your upcoming birthday present. Please do keep me posted about the wonderful things you are doing and discovering. Today we went on a walk in the steps of Jane Austin. It was quite an adventure. Well at first all was going well then my knee started hurting. So we had to take a shortcut along the road but before that we stopped at the plucking pheasant bar and had what I thought was the best sandwich I had ever had in my life. So along the road we went until there was no footpath. So we snuck into a farmers field and walked there. The farmer saw us and came racing towards us in his tractor. We ran then came to a gate were we walked in a ditch of poison ivy for about 10 minutes. So we just had to walk on the road until a car came then we stood on the side. Then we saw a sign that said footpath and we walked along it until we got home. After that we saw Jane Austen’s house and mum bought me a quill and some ink. Home at last and we went straight to sleep.

Sounds like you guys are having some fun. I worked like a dog in the sun all week long and hardly made any money at all. I also had the worst sandwich of my life last week. I was a P&J but I left it in the hot car too long so that the bread was soaked thru with jam juice and was so hot that the peanut butter was melted, but I ate it anyways cause I was hungry it was such a mess I had to have a dog come over and lick my hands clean before I could pick up my work tools. I'm also sunburnt. Have fun.

Well today was our last day in London so we made the most of it by going to Carbunkles and the National Gallery and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not.

Monday 13 October, 2008

Day two of London. We’re getting used to the hotel. Mum spent a lot of time on the computer in the morning but luckily I convinced her to get off so we could go to town.

First we took the tube (train) to the centre of the city and mum had coffee in a nearby cafe. We got directions from the owner about how to get to the Lon don Eye. Following our small map we eventually arrived. Mum and I had to stand in line for about 20 minutes before we got on. It was EXREMELY slow but enjoyable. When our pod got to the top we really got excited. The London Eye stands by its name. We could see all over London. After a short walk and a couple of ice creams we arrived at the Big Ben although we already saw it on the London Eye. I was having so much fun but mum had to kill it with a visit to the Banqueting Hall where we had to hold remote controls to our ears and listen to some old man talk about it.

With all this noise we needed some place to go where it was quiet. So off to Kew Gardens we went.

It for more fun than I expected. Mum and I saw man eating plants and gigantic trees. It was really enjoyable. Then hunger set in. So we were on our way to an Indian Restaurant where the waiters take half an hour to get your drinks and even longer to get the bill. We left a tip but they didn’t seem to like it so they humphed and didn’t open the door for our exit as they did for our entry. Another hour long train ride and we were home.

London

Sadly we couldn’t stay at Le Meridian forever and we left this morning for the airport. Checked in and passed through customs we sat down on the plane. Mum and I both snagged 4 seats each, oh the things we did... As we passed over India we saw a lot of rivers. We were trying to guess what they were. Then a couple of hours later, Afghanistan. I was a little frightened that terrorists would shoot down the plane. Finally getting off from the 13 hour trip we were at Heathrow Airport. Everyone had the ol’ English accent (I really like it). We caught the tube to Manor House and walked for about an hour to our hotel. The Amhurst Hotel. Its crap. The bathroom looks smells like a dead rat and poo combined. Most of the appliances don’t work and the beds don’t have sheets. After we got settled in we quickly walked along to he local supermarket. It was interesting to see all the different brands of food. Our shopping trip had ended and we were now back in the hotel eating bread and cheese. A cat walked in and it looked really cute but we had no more food left. Then we went to sleep. We didn’t have a very good night.

First day in KL!

Hello whoever is reading this as you know I am Alex and I perhaps just had the best day of my life. This was my first day in KL (Kuala Lumpur), the capital of Malaysia. Well I best be getting started. Firstly my mother and I decided to visit the bird park. We got lost so it took us about an hour to get there. On the way we saw a lake with a huge jet fountain in the middle. Soon after we came across an old building called a mosque. Nothing was there so we travelled along only to find about a family of about 15 wild monkeys. They were eating bananas people were giving them. There were babies and elders and lots of protective mothers. We stayed there for about 20 minutes like we were stuck to the ground.

We yet again came across another interesting thing. A replica of stonehenge. Mum was really excited. Finally we came across a Malaysian Police Museum. There were boats and tanks and armored cars. We didn’t have to wait long before we came across a cafeteria. We ordered two things called sky waters, served to us in a plastic bag with an elastic band.

We had to ask several people to find out where the entrance to the bird park was. Every person sent us in a different way until we finally got there. It was so great! There were birds of all shapes, sizes and colors. I held a talking parrot, a cockatoo, a budgie, about 20 parrots and a toucan. I fed emus and ostriches and as you know, parrots. I had about 5 seeds in my hand and they all came along. I was so excited. Then we saw some hawks, eagles and flamingos but by that time we were both tired and itchy and took a ‘teksi’ home.

We were staying at the most luxurious hotel in all of town, ‘Le Meridien’. They had a huge pool so I forced mum on the water slide. After the quick dip mum decided to go to the central markets. Oh it was so fun believe it or not. We saw this shop called the cute fish spa, so of coarse we went in. In there we both bought ourselves ten minutes of hundreds of fish eating our feet. The sign said they ate the dead cells on it. It was so ticklish I couldn’t stop laughing. Mum said her feet hurt after that.

Well we came back to the hotel again for a little while, then wanted to get something to eat. So we basically crossed the road to the food court. Suddenly I wasn’t so hungry. I had Malaysian KFC which still tasted awful. Nearly everything in the food court had shrimp paste on it, including my meal.

So then we headed to the hotel once again and here I am now writing this.
